Info: She was born in Belgrade in 1970, where she studied dramaturgy and theatre and made her playwriting debut in 1997 with “The Belgrade Trilogy,” her final student project. The presentation of this same work at the BONN BIENNALE 1998 launched her international career. Since then, her plays have continued to arouse worldwide interest and have been translated into 80 languages. She has become one of the most performed authors in German-speaking countries. In 2006, the Theatre-Biennale featured her play “Locusts,” a social panorama of a country whose people have been branded first by destructive communism and then by ravaging capitalism.
In her latest plays, including “Barbelo,” a commissioned work for the theatre Schauspiel Essen, her tendency to surrealism has become increasingly apparent. This corresponds to her own observation “that we live in an absurd society in a surreal way.” She has taught dramaturgy in Belgrade since 1997. From 2000 to 2006, she led workshops for young playwrights at the Theatre-Biennale.
