Info: He was born in 1958. He studied acting and theatre in Manchester and Leeds before working as a director and author for theatre, radio and television as well as a journalist. From 1992 to 1997, he took up residency at the National Theatre in Reykjavik as director and dramaturg. He has written plays since 1992 and has worked as a freelance author and translator of contemporary drama since 1998. The Theatre-Biennale 2004 presented his work “Our Boy,” a play that examines the complex relationship that a couple has with their homosexual son and his boyfriend by showing the characters' attempts to reflect on their past with being able to change their behavior in the present. His latest play, “Tell Me the Truth” (2009), depicts the opposite situation: An old father has a sex change and his son is unable to deal with it. His dramas are set in the present and are written in a wide range of forms that span from realism to satire and the grotesque. The author says he expects theatre to be more than just a mirror to society; it “should maintain a conversation with society and point people in the right direction – and everything that it deals with is more or less political.”
