Info: Born in Kaçanik in 1977, he studied theatre at the University of Priština. He founded and headed the Qendra multimedia center before being appointed artistic director of the National Theatre of Kosovo in Priština to introduce his country to new developments in the theatrical landscape. To do so, he has utilized the many contacts he has made through productions of his plays abroad. He has written about 15 plays thus far, many of which are based on the war in his home country and its consequences. However, instead of dealing with these topics in a naturalistic way, he prefers to “distort” events in diverse ways and to varying degrees. The closest he comes to directness is in his play “The Last Supper,” in which he offers a depiction of the harms of war and revenge, but also of reconciliation. The story of the division and reconciliation of two village communities that he presents in “The Bridge” is a parable of the relations between the two ethnic groups in his country. In “War in Times of Love,” he depicts a beauty salon which, complete with employees, turns out to be a place for the absurd and the sinister. (Photo: Ermal Meta)
